Location
Mansfield
Mansfield is the largest town in the English county of Nottinghamshire and has a population of just under 170,000 people. The town can be accessed via junctions 27, 28 and 29 of the M1 motorway and also from the A617 and A60.
Historically, Mansfield was home to a large independent brewer called Mansfield Brewery which was acquired by a rival company in the late nineties for over £250m. Before its acquisition and subsequent site closure, Mansfield Brewery was a dominating force in the town's local economy.
Nowadays, the old brewery site is undergoing significant redevelopment. In 2004, Mansfield District Council's Planning Committee agreed planning permission for 50,000 square feet of office accommodation and another 50,000 square feet of work space. The new offices are designed to be environmentally friendly and will include solar power and water conservation facilities.
The regeneration of the old brewery site is typical of the direction that Mansfield has taken ? one of continued growth and business opportunity. Indeed, other redevelopments include the i-centre and i2, which provide an incubation environment and accommodation space for start-up businesses, and Arrival Square which provides 2,000 square feet of office space.
Established employers in Mansfield are predominantly found in the retail and transport (Stagecoach/Mansfield Railway) sectors. In respect to the former, there is a large market square in the town alongside a shopping, leisure and entertainment centre, which includes a museum, Palace Theatre, Intake Club and Town Mill.
Mansfield is also home to Mansfield Town FC, with a 9,990 capacity ground, and is just a few miles away from the famous Sherwood Forest.
