Hull is situated in the north east of Yorkshire, on the banks of the River Humber. It is approximately 10 miles of south of Beverley and can be accessed from the A15, A165, A1079 and the A1033. Hull was first established as a town in the 12th Century and permission was granted for a market and a fair to which people from all over the northeast would travel to buy and sell their wares. In the late 1200s and early 1300s a port was established in Hull to aid the armies fighting the Scots and a mint was established along with a merchant's exchange. The port became very busy, exporting wool, grain and hides and importing wine for the upper classes, wood, iron, wax and pitch. Later, the town became important for the export of manufactured goods from around the northeast. Goods to allow this manufacturing to take place were also imported into the port in hull. During the 20th Century, Hull was home to the third largest port in the UK and to the busiest and main fishing port. It also became a major passenger port with people travelling to Sweden and Holland by ship.

Today Hull is mainly recognised as being a tourist and retail area. There are two large shopping centres; The Princes Quay Shopping Centre and Prospect Shopping Centre. Tourist travel from all over the world to visit the Humber Bridge and there are numerous museums to visit; including the Historic Dock Yard. There is even a new aquarium that was opened in 2001.
