Huddersfield
Huddersfield is a university town in West Yorkshire, not far from the M62 motorway. It is approached by the A629, A637, A644 and the A640. It is surrounded by Halifax to the north and Wakefield to the East. Huddersfield is also on the edges of the Peak District National Park and the south Pennines.
Huddersfield is most famous for its woollen industry, still producing fine worsteds that are sent world wide for its loyal customer base. In fact, the local textile industry is responsible for much of the town's architecture as it was used to pay for it. There was also a thriving mining industry which employed many inhabitants. Today, Huddersfield is still known for being a creative environment, hosting an array of festivals each year which have won prestigious awards and earned the town its artistic reputation. Home to two popular canals the town has utilised this resource in the past as an aid to industry, transporting textiles and coal and today they are used for narrow boat holidays and by those who enjoy walking and wildlife spotting. Huddersfield has an array of entertainment venues to chose from, including, Huddersfield Concert Hall, Lawrence Batley Theatre, Colne Valley Museum, Huddersfield Art Gallery and Tolson Memorial Museum amongst others.
Today Huddersfield is home to Magma Toys, Swift Blinds and Curtains and Continental Sports Ltd. One of the major employers in the area is the university and the students bring a lot of business for those in the buy to let industry.
