Dundee
Dundee is the fourth largest city in Scotland and is situated on the north bank of the Firth of Tay, which leads out into the North Sea. Dundee is a regional hub for employment and education, with many people from neighbouring towns flocking to the city in order to find work and education.
Dundee's main road is the A90 which connects to Perth in the West and Aberdeen to the North. The main southern route used in Dundee is via Riverside Drive which runs along the Tay.
Dundee has a sound economic history and always attracts new companies into the area. Up until 1983 Dundee was home to Timex, who produced the first ZX Spectrum computer in Dundee. Sadly the Timex plant closed in 1993 after ongoing industrial disputes. Although Dundee still has a decent manufacturing base, the main areas of growth in the city have been in the areas of software development, biotechnology and retail. Dundee also hosts a small but secure financial, banking and insurance sector, employing more than a tenth of the workforce. The town also has a large university, The University of Dundee which is a popular choice for UK students.
Cultural places of note in Dundee include The Dundee Repertory Theatre and McManus Galleries, which is a stunning Gothic Revival Building hosting great works of art and a museum featuring national history exhibits from Dundee. The town is also home to a public observatory, the Mills Observatory.
Dundee and Dundee United are the towns two football teams who play at Dens Park and Tannadice Park, located only 160m apart.
