Crewe
The town of Crewe is situated in the borough of Crewe and Nantwich which is in Cheshire. It is the largest town in its borough. Crewe is situated on the A530 and A534 and is less than 10 miles away from the M6 motorway, giving it excellent transport links.
Crewe is probably best known for its large railway junction which is one of the most important junctions on the West Coast main line. The station has 12 platforms and is the largest station in the UK for a town of its size. Crewe was also once home to major railway works and is now home to The Crewe Heritage Centre formerly 'The Railway Age' which is a major railway museum. The museum is very popular with train enthusiasts and visitors to Crewe as it houses a preserved Advanced passenger train which is visible from the main railway line in Crewe. The museum has recently been revamped and new exhibits added.
From 1946 until 2002, Rolls- Royce cars were produced in Crewe. Production at the Rolls factory ceased on August 30th 2002 but now the Pyms Lane factory is used as a production base for Bentley Motor Cars, ensuring that Crewe keeps its tradition of motor car production for future generations. There are currently plans to revamp Crewe and improve the town's look and economic prospects.
Crewe have a local football team, Crewe Alexandra F.C whose stadium, known as the Alexandra Stadium, can be located at Gretsy Road which is roughly 1.5 miles from the town centre.
