Bournemouth is situated on the south coast of England and is a popular tourist destination. It has good road and rail links and even an international airport for travel to the near continent and beyond. It is easily accessed by road, using the A35 and the A338.

Bournemouth has a new university for which it has been awarded and has been voted the happiest town in the UK. Historically its main industrial focus has been tourism; since it was first promoted as a tourist destination for the rich and famous back in 1836. Tourism continues to be one of the main industries in the area, but others now include service industries such as finance, building societies and insurance. Bars and restaurants also continue to thrive in the area due to the high level of tourism. Other industries associated with Bournemouth are industrial engineers, The Arts Institute and the pharmaceutical industry.

There are many places of interest to visit in Bournemouth, including; The Oceanarium, Dorset Belles (pleasure boats), Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum, King Edward's Love Nest, where he courted Lillie Langtree and the Bournemouth Eye. The Bournemouth Eye is similar to the London Eye, providing panoramic views over the south coast and the English Channel. There is a large shopping centre in Bournemouth, known as Castlepoint and the international airport provides much needed employment opportunities as well as convenient travel options for the residents. The biggest employers in the area continue to be the hotels, bars and restaurants who help to maintain the thriving tourist industry.
